Workforce Development and Career Pathways
IndyGo Works connects jobseekers and teammates to careers in public transportation through training, education and community partnerships. Programs support skill-building, paid learning opportunities and long-term career success.
Mentorship & Apprenticeship Program (MAP)
IndyGo and Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1070 jointly launched MAP to grow the current and future workforce through peer mentoring and apprenticeship training opportunities for bus operators and mechanics.
Mentorship Program
Through mentorship, teammates receive an added layer of support as first-year bus operators or mechanics. Peer mentors are partnered with new bus operators and mechanics to act as guides in the program through activities, check-ins, ride-a-longs and mentoring events.
Bus Operator Apprenticeship
All first-year bus operators are entered into Registered Apprenticeship and earn a credential from the Department of Labor after 2,000 hours of on-the-job training.
Mechanic Apprenticeship
IndyGo offers mechanic apprenticeship for paid on-the-job training in partnership with Ivy tech. This two-year cohort-based program allows IndyGo teammates and external jobseekers and opportunity to gain paid mechanic training and related instruction. Application are required and spots are limited.
Community of Practice
Through this initiative, IndyGo’s community partners engage in collective learning, knowledge sharing, and networking to enhance awareness of career opportunities while sharing resources for jobseekers across the community. Participating organizations are asked to complete a partnership agreement and can make requests for IndyGo to support employer engagement and work-based learning activities such as hiring events, career presentations, company tours, individual jobseeker support, and more. Community of Practice meetings are held quarterly for individual partner organizations check-in’s are scheduled quarterly.
